Boating Past Whitefish Bay Camp

The cool and at-times-stormy summer of 2009 in Northwest Ontario finally gave way into a nice, warm, and bit humid summer by September.

Here in the rugged South-end of Whitefish Bay you enjoy one view after another. Today we're passing by Whitefish Bay Camp.

What a great place this island camp is to stage outings for northern pike on the flats of the south shore of Whitefish and in the deeper waters around the many-channeled islands trailing along the eastern shores of the bay. Lake Trout are found mostly in the deeper waters just to the north and northwest when the waters warm up but you might find this spectacular fish most anywhere early and late in the fishing season.

Of course the whole of Lake of the Woods is renown Smallmouth Bass and Walleye. Some might favour a bit longer trip up into Long and Yellowgirl Bays for walleye later in July and August. But you can have alot of fun checking around places like Bell Island to see if you can't find them. Look for them around one of the many humps and reefs that you'll see on your lake map and sonars. You'll sometimes find next to shallow sandy shores that slow fall off into deeper waters. Try different depths and presentations.
