Tourist Attractions in Northwestern Ontario - Sunset Country

Kakabeka Falls Provincial ParkAttractions, both natural and man-made, can be found throughout the region and its natural beauty is evident just about everywhere you go. Sheer granite cliffs that plunge deep into clear blue lakes present some the best terrain to explore anywhere on the Canadian Shield. If you are a boater or canoeist, you can view ancient native petroglyphs (rock art) frozen in time on a granite rock faces along many pristine northern lakes. Reflections of the heritage of the region's Anishinaabe People are embedded in the images on these rocks.

Take Time to See What's Here

InterpretiveCentre at Manitou Mounds Modern attractions include Husky the Muskie and the Heritage Townscape Murals in Kenora, the Railway Museum in Rainy River, Max the Moose in Dryden, and a full-scale monument of unique and famous Norseman bush planes in Red Lake, just to name just a few. Each town in itself is rich in character with many interesting waterfronts and business centers. Near Stratton, Ontario is a National Historic Site in Canada - the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre - the "Place of the Long Rapids". See an interpretive centre with Anishinaabe artifacts, a sturgeon hatchery and ancient burial mounds.

If you wish to see a truly unique attraction and you don't mid riding on a float plane then a trip to see the famous White Otter Castle, a wood constructed "mansion" in the middle of nowhere is for you. Located on White Otter Lake and built in the early part of the 20th Century, it is said the man who constructed it for his bride never realized the fruits of his labour as she decided not to show up.

Ontario Golf coursesGolf courses in our part of Ontario give new meaning to the term "play it as it lies" with a number of challenging 9 and 18 hole courses located in the region. Make sure that you bring your golf clubs with you so you can get a round or two in. Better yet, why not tour the various towns and cities and play the courses in each one? After a round on the links visit the local beach and cool off with a swim. Local clubs offer cart and club rentals, golfing supplies and instruction.

If you are thinking of visiting the region and want to know more about the various attractions available to see, just e-mail us and we'll be glad to tell you where they are.
