Fishing Trip: Brich Island Resort offers some of northwestern Ontario's best bass, walleye, pike and muskie fishing! Fish the Winnipeg River system. There are approximately 45 miles of River and 5 large lakes connected onto the system, with no portage required.

Walleye: Walleye (or the local misnomer "yellow pickerel") are plentiful on the Winnipeg River System. Walleyes range in size from "shorelunchers" up to about 12 lbs. Trophy walleye are frequently caught at Birch Island Resort in Minaki, Ontario

Muskie: Trophy Muskie are frequently caught & released at Birch Island Resort. Many guests catch big musky in the 48-54 inch range or larger while fishing on the five connected chain of lakes of the Winnipeg River System such as Pistol,Gunn,or Little Sand .

Northern Pike: Fishing northern pike in Minaki can be caught in a variety of habitat from shallow weedy bays to deep in the current of the Winnipeg River System or it's chain of lakes (Gunn, Little Sand, Big Sand, Pistol, & Rough Rock Lake) in Northwestern Ontario.

Bass / Smallmouth Bass: Pound for pound, smallmouth bass are the scrappiest fish in the Winnipeg River System near Minaki, Ontario. Bass take a variety of lures including topwater, spinner baits, & diving plugs. Smallies are also voracious predators of crayfishes & leaches.

Crappie: The Winnipeg River System has pockets of black crappie, one of the finest tasting panfish. Crappie is a large, deep bodied sunfish usually about 7-10" in length. Crappie is found in discrete schools usually in warm water & slower flowing areas.

Perch: No Canadian fishing trip is complete without shore lunch and pan fish are a favorite. Yellow perch are plentiful in the Winnipeg River System and reach fairly large sizes.

Deer: When planning your hunting trip to the Lake of the woods area this fall, keep Birch Island Lodge in the Minaki area in mind for excellent deer hunting

Guides / Fishing: For your canadian fishing trip, our experienced fishing guides spend a minimum of 9 hours each day with our guests. They'll advise you on proper baits and equipment selection and put you where the fish are biting on Gunn Lake or the Winnipeg River.
