The river enters Heathcote at the south end and exits at the north end, where twin falls carry it on to James Bay. All surrounding lakes drain into Heathcote, which is the main body of water in this area. There is unlimited classic fishing structure in this Canadian shield lake formed by granitic bedrock: hundreds of coves, shallow and deep bays, narrows and inlets. Pine, spruce, birch and aspen covered islands shelter the lake. The cool clean water is tea colored and contains rock reefs and points, submerged islands and humps, slopes, and sandbars adjacent to weedbeds. Water depths are up to 140 feet and contain walleye, northern pike, whitefish and perch.
