- Provincial Parks / Pigeon River Provincial Park

Pigeon River Provincial Park is located just north of the Canada/US border crossing at Pigeon River, Ontario. The Pigeon River, a rugged, northern waterway is the focal point of the park. Dotted with sheer cliffs and a multitude of smaller waterfalls, the beauty of the area is something to marvel at.

The campground portion of the park is situated on a floodplain left by ancient glacial Lake Agassiz and offers wonderful flat camp sites amidst mature boreal forest. The Pigeon River is one of Lake Superior's main tributaries and it carves its way through soft sedimentary rocks leaving a beautiful rugged river profile. The breathtaking High Falls and Middle Falls are two scenic highlights along the river.

The Pigeon River is also steeped in history as it was a main thoroughfare for voyageurs and fur traders who worked for the Northwest Company. The Pigeon River Voyageur Route - part of which runs through the park - was the preferred way west and primary route of these hardy explorers between 1722 and 1797.

The park and river are major attractions to those who love nature - especially for those who love to canoe. There is an abundance of birds, wildlife and many interesting plant species to be seen along the rivers banks and within the park's interior. Come see for yourself - you won't be dissappointed!

For more information about the park or to register for a campsite call the Park office at (807) 964-2097.
