Uchi Lake is 12 miles long by 1/2 mile wide, a reasonably large lake (3100 acres) but one you can always fish, regardless of weather. It is rather long and narrow lying in a northeast - southwest direction and has many bays, inlets and islands. Its mean depth is 17.3 feet with numerous lunker holes of up to 68' in depth. There are numerous ledges and drop-offs to fish as well. Historical Information: The word "Uchi" translated from the Indian dialect means fly. It is not known whether reference is to the act of flying or to the pesky little insects that are present in the form of mosquitoes and black flies. Lake Characteristics: Water temperatures ranged from 71 degrees F. at the surface to 41 degrees F at the bottom with the most rapid change occurring between twenty and thirty feet.
